It is impossible to be totally objective about this book as it is published by the owner of topspreadbets.com and as I have known Evil very well for many years. We share a love of the market, and - judging by this book - have many views in common to boot! Having said that it is a good read.
Unlike Evil this volume is fairly slim. Having said that, like Evil, it is entertaining and packed with information.
This is an odd hybrid of a book in that it is part autobiography (Evil explaining the factors that have made him the man he is); part case histories (Evil describing his greatest triumphs) and part a manual of shorting (If you want to know how to short, the complete technicalities are explained clearly). This last section is clearly not the most entertaining but if you are not totally familiar with the subject and want to understand the practicalities of how to make money from shorting (down to details that even an expert might have overlooked) then this is as good a guide as you will find anywhere.
Since most members of topspreadbets.com will have a good grasp of this subject then the most useful, and undoubtedly most entertaining section is the case histories: Maxwell, Pan Andean, Baltimore - Evil describes in detail why he knew these stocks were riding for a fall and how executed his coups. It makes you think about certain other stocks on the market today.
I don't always agree with Evil. Not his methods, I hasten to add, he plays it by the book. But occasionally I simply disagree with his analysis. And from time to time I worry that maybe he can become too set in his judgement. A stock may be a great sell at 10p but in six months time it might be a buy at 5p or indeed at 15p. Rarely does a stock stay a sell forever!
However, to know how he thinks and how he operates is something no analyst or investor can really afford to ignore- his careful explanation of his stock picking strategy is a 'must read' for anyone interested in the market. Though a useful book it is also an entertaining one - there are even jokes and cartoons. If you are looking for some holiday reading look no further.
Evil's Good Book of Boasts normally costs £20, but it is available for £17 in the topspreadbets.com bookstore
